The field note is our back page: a handful of prompts that make the coming week more interesting.
One production idea
Watch a quiet dialogue scene with the sound off. Count how often the composition changes before the characters do. Then turn the sound back on and notice which cuts are carrying information that the dialogue never states.
One business question
When a company announces a new anime initiative, ask which capability it is actually buying: audience, rights, production capacity, distribution, data, or prestige. “Anime” is the category; the capability is the strategy.
One scene to rewatch
Return to a transformation, entrance, or reveal you remember vividly. Ignore the central action and watch the background. Often the scene’s scale was built before the subject ever moved.
One community signal
Notice what fans are teaching one another this week. Tutorials, reading lists, translation threads, and event guides are early evidence of interest becoming infrastructure.
One open tab
Keep a list of credits you want to recognize on sight. Add one name this week and follow their work sideways—not just to the next famous title, but to the smaller project where their choices are easier to isolate.
